Size: Newborn (6 mos.) – foot length about 4” (4 ½”)
Materials: 1 - 50 gr ball
Crystal Palace Bamboozle (55%
bamboo, 24% cotton, 21% elastic nylon - 90 yds in a 50 gram skein) shown in
color #9575 Circus
Size US 7 (4.5 mm) set of 4 double pointed needles
Gauge: 5 sts = 1” in stockinette stitch on size 7
needles
[Tip: to slightly enlarge the booties, knit them on size 8
needles at approx. 4.75 sts/in]
Abbreviations:
BO: Bind Off
Beg: Beginning
CO: Cast On
K: Knit
K2tog: Knit 2 together
M 1: Make 1
RS: Right Side
Rept: Repeat
Sl: Slip
SSK: Slip, Slip, Knit
St(s): Stitch(es)
St St: Stockinette Stitch – K the right side rows and P the wrong side rows
WS: Wrong Side
YO: Yarn over
Directions:
Cuff: Loosely CO 20 sts.
Arrange evenly on three needles and join into a circle, being careful not to
twist your sts.
Round 1: * K 1, P 1, rept from * to end of round.
Round 2: * P 1, K 1, rept from * to end of round.
Repeat these two rounds until piece measures 2”.
K 1 round.
Next round: * YO, K2tog, rept from * to end of round.
K 3 rounds.
Divide for Heel: K 5. Sl
remaining sts on this needle to needle 2 for holding. Turn work. Sl 1, P 9. Move
remaining sts on this needle to needle 2 for holding. You now have 10 (25, 29)
sts held on needle 2 for your instep, and 10 sts to work for your heel flap.
Heel Flap: (worked back and forth in rows)
Row 1 (RS): Sl 1, K to end of row
Row 2: Sl 1, p to end of row
Repeat these two rows 4 times more, then work row 1 again – 11 rows.
Turn Heel:
Row 1: Sl 1, p 5, p2tog, p 1, turn
Row 2: Sl 1, k 3, k2tog, k 1, turn
Row 3: Sl 1, p 4, p2tog, turn
Row 4: Sl 1, k 4, k2tog - 6 sts remain.
Pick up Sts for Gussets: Continuing with the needle holding your heel sts, pick
up and knit 6 sts down the left side of heel flap. Using a second needle, K 10
sts at instep. Using a third needle, pick up and knit 6 stitches up the right
side of heel flap. K 3 sts to center of heel. 28 sts. Beginning of round is at
center of heel. K one round.
Decrease Gussets:
Round 1: Needle 1 – K to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1
Needle 2 – Work in rib pattern as established
Needle 3 – K1, SSK, K to end of round
Round 2: K
Alternate these two rounds 3 times more – 20 sts.
Foot: Continue without shaping for 10 (14) rounds.
Shape Toe:
Round 1: * K 2, K2tog, rept from * 4 times more
Round 2: K
Round 3: * K 1, K2tog, rept from * 4 times more
Round 4: K2tog 5 times
Break yarn and draw through remaining sts. Pull tight, and fasten off.
Make 3- stitch knitted I-cord as follows:
CO 3 sts. * K 3 sts.
Do not turn. Slide sts back to other end of needle, draw yarn across back of
sts, and rept from *.
When cord measures 12”, break yarn and draw through all sts. Thread cord through
eyelets below cuff and tie in a bow.
