free knitting pattern for baby sweater in Bunny Hop angora blend

Bunny Hop Butterfly Stitch
Baby Pullover

Sizes:
6 (6-12, 12-24) months

Materials:
3 (3,4) 50 gr balls - Bunny Hop - Color 9800 Painted Iris
Bunny Hop is a blend of microfibers and 8% angora, see colors by clicking link Bunny Hop.
Needles: Crystal Palace Bamboo or DAISY Needles
Size 4 & 6 US (3.5 mm & 4 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge
stitch holder
6 buttons

 

Gauge
22 sts and 32 rows to 4 ins (10cm) in butterfly patt using US 6 (4mm) needles.
Always check your gauge carefully. Use smaller needles if you have less stitches to the inch or thicker needles if you have more stitches to the inch.

Abbreviations
K, knit; p, purl; st(s); stitch(es); St.st, stockinette stitch; rep, repeat; beg, begin(ning); inc, increase; dec, decrease; foll, following; alt, alternate; cont, continue; patt, pattern; m1, make 1 st by picking up the loop between the st just worked and the next st and k into the back of it; sl, slip; yfd, yarn forward; ybk, yarn back; lps, loops; cm, centimeters; ins, inches.

BACK
With 3.5mm (US 4) needles cast on 45(49, 55) sts. Beg and ending 1st row with k1 (right side), work 9 rows k1, p1 rib.
Inc row (wrong side): Rib 2(4, 7), m1, (rib 6, m1) to last 1(3, 6) sts, rib 1(3, 6). [53(57, 63) sts.] **
Change to 4mm (US 6) needles and beg Butterfly Pattern:
1st row: K.
2nd row: P.
3rd and 4th rows: As 1st and 2nd rows.
5th row: K4(1, 4), (yfd, sl next 5 sts purlwise, take ybk loosely and k5) to end, ending last rep k4(1,4).
6th row: P.
7th to 10th rows: Rep 5th and 6th rows twice.
11th row: K6(3, 6), (take point of needle under the 3 lps lying at front of work and k next st, then sl the 3 lps over this st and off needle, k9) to end, ending last rep k6(3, 6).
12th row: P.
13th row: K.
14th row: P.
15th and 16th rows: As 13th and 14th rows.
17th row: K9(6, 9), (yfd, sl next 5 sts purlwise, take ybk loosely and k5) to last 4(1,4) sts, k4(1,4).
18th row: P.
19th to 22nd rows: Rep 17th and 18th rows twice.
23rd row: K11 (8, 11), (take point of needle under the 3 lps lying at front of work and k next st, then sl the 3 lps over this st and off needle, k9)toend, ending last rep k11 (8,11).
24th row: P.
These 24 rows form the patt for back.

Rep them once (twice, twice) more, then rep 1st to 16th(4th, 16th) rows again.

Shape Neck
Next row: Patt 14(16,14), k5(5, 9) sts, turn. Working sts at neck edge in St st as set, cont on these sts only and dec 1 st at neck edge on next 6 rows. [13(15, 17) sts.] ***.
P 1 row.
Change to 3.5mm (US 4) needles and rib 6 rows for button band at shoulder. Cast off in ribbing.
With right side facing, sl center 15(15, 17) sts onto a st holder. Work other side of neck to match.
Neckband

With right side facing, using 3.5mm (US 4) needles pick up and k 12 sts down side of neck, k sts from st holder, and pick up and k 12 sts up side of neck. [39(39, 41) sts.] Rib 6 rows. Cast off in ribbing.

FRONT
Work as given for back to **.
Change to 4mm (US 6) needles and patt thus:
1st to 12th rows: Work as given for 13th to 24th part rows of back.
13th to 24th rows: Work as given for 1st to 12th patt rows of back.
These 24 rows form the patt for front.
Rep them once (once, twice) more, then rep 1st to 4th(16th, 4th) of these patt rows again.
Shape Neck
Work as given for neck shaping of back to ***.
Patt 13 rows.
Change to 3.5mm (US 4) needles and rib 2 rows for buttonhole band at shoulder.
Next row (make buttonholes): Rib 3, bind off 2, rib to last 5 sts, bind off 2, rib to end.
Next row: Rib, casting on 2 sts over those cast off on previous row.
Rib 2 rows. Cast off in ribbing.
With right side facing, sl center 15(15, 17) sts onto a st holder. Work other side of neck to match.
Neckband
With right side facing, using 3.5mm (US 4) needles pick up and k 16 sts down side of neck, k sts from st holder, and pick up and k 16 sts up side of neck. [47(47, 49) sts.] Rib 2 rows.
Next row (make buttonholes): Rib 3, bind off 2, rib to last 5 sts, bind off 2, rib to end.
Next row: Rib, casting on 2 sts over those cast off on previous row.
Rib 2 rows. Cast off in ribbing.

SLEEVES
With 3.5mm (US 4) needles cast on 23(27, 33) sts. Rib 7(7, 9) rows as given for back.
Inc row (wrong side): Rib 2(4, 3), m1, * rib 2(2, 3), m1; rep from * to last 3(5, 3) sts, rib 3(5, 3). [33(37, 43) sts.]
Change to 4mm (US 6) needles. Patt as given for back and inc 1 st at each end of 7th and every foll 3rd(4th, 5th) row until there are 53(57, 63) sts, working inc sts at each end into patt only when there are sufficient to work a complete 5-st patt.
Work 6(5, 2) rows straight, ending with a 16th(24th, 4th) patt row. Bind off loosely.

Finishing
Lap buttonhole bands over button bands and join outer ends. Sew on buttons and fasten them. Taking 1 st into seams, beg and ending 4.75 (5.25, 5.75) ins [12(13.5,14.5)cm] from centre of bands, sew sleeves to sides. Join side and sleeve seams.

Back and Front Knit Alike
First Leg
With 3.5mm (US 4) needles cast on 25(29, 33) sts. Rib 6 rows as given for sweater. Change to 4mm (US 6) needles and beg k, work 4(6, 8) rows St.st **.
Cent in St.st and dec 1 st at beg of next and foil alt row. [23(27, 31) sts] P1 row. Leave sts on a st holder.
Second Leg
Work as given for first leg to "*. Cont in St.st and dec 1 st at end of next and foil alt row. [23(27,31)sts.] P 1 row.
Next row: K 23(27, 31) sts, then onto same needle k 23(27, 31) sts of first leg. [46(54, 62) sts.]
Beg p, work 33(43, 53) rows St.st. Change to 3.5mm (US 4) needles and work 8 rows k1, p1 rib for waistband. Cast off loosely in ribbing.
Finishing
Taking 1 st into seams, join side seams, then join inside leg seams. Join elastic in a ring.
Fold waistband in half to wrong side and sew down enclosing elastic.
