Materials 5 (6, 6, 7, 7, 8) 50 gr. balls of
Crystal Palace Cotton Chenille, col #8166 Crystal Palace Bamboo Needles US 5 and 6 - 26 and 35" circular needle,
and size 5-16" circular needle 8 Stitch holders 4 buttons
Gauge: 16 sts = 4" on larger needle size in St st
Sizes 1 (2, 3, 4, 5, 6) Finished chest sizes: 20 (22, 23, 24, 25, 26) inches
Instructions Cast on 160 (168, 176, 184, 192, 200) sts with size 6 - 25" circular needle.
Knit 3 rows. Place marker, and join, taking care not to twist stitches. K2 rounds, P1 round.
K in rounds until piece measures 3" from cast-on edge. Next round: *K 20 (21, 22, 23, 24, 25) place marker* 8 times. (Note: Change to 24" needle when needed as circumference decreases.}
Decrease round: *K to 2 sts before marker, K2 tog* eight times. Knit even for 2" more.
Repeat decrease round. Continue in this manner, working decrease round every 2"
until skirt measures 11 (13,15, 17, 19, 21) inches. Count the remaining sts.
Last decrease round: Decrease evenly spaced to 80 (88, 92, 96, 100, 104)
sts. K 2 rounds even. Change to size 5 - 16" circular needle. Eyelet row: *yo, K2 tog* all around. Work in K1-P1 ribbing for 1.5 (1.5, 2, 2, 2.5, 2.5) inches for bodice of jumper.
Divide for armholes: Bind off 11 (15, 15,15. 17, 17) sts for underarm,
rib across 29 (29, 31, 33, 33, 35,) sts and place on holder for back, bind off
11(15, 15, 15, 17, 19) sts for underarm, rib across remaining sts.
Front: continue ribbing as established for 2.5 (2.5,
3.5, 4, 5, 5.5) inches. Straps: Rib across 7 (7, 7. 9, 9, 9) sts, place on holder, bind off 15
(15,17, 15, 15, 17) as to knit, rib across remaining stitches. Continue in ribbing to make front strap for 3 (3, 4,
4, 5, 5) inches . Bind off. Complete second front strap in same manner. Back: work in ribbing as established until back measures 4 (4, 4.5, 4.5,
5, 5)". Work straps as for front.
Overlap back strap onto front strap and fasten together with
buttons. At this point, it is a good idea to fit the jumper on the child to
establish amount of overlap. The buttons can be moved as the child grows taller.
