Designed, knit and felted by Terry L. Ross for Crystal Palace YarnsOne piece, one seam, finish with a flourish and this makes a great and fun looking clutch purse.
Materials –
2 - 50 gr balls Crystal Palace Fjord, #9523 "Scuba" (Color A)
1 ball (50 grams) Crystal Palace Fjord, #4889 Teal Lake (Color B)
Crystal Palace 26" Circular Bamboo or DAISY 29" Circular Needle US Size #11
Darning needle
Stitch markerAbbreviations:
K Knit; P Purl; PM - Place Marker; KFB - Knit in Front & Back of stitch (increase 1 stitch), WS - Wrong sideGauge – 3½" stitches per inch
Dimensions – 15" wide and 10½" tall before felting; 11½" wide and 6" tall after felting
Instructions –
Cast on 100 stitches with Color A, PM, and join being sure not to twist the work. Begin knitting in the round in stockinette stitch and knit 40 rounds, or approximately 10 inches.
At the beginning of the next round, bind off 50 stitches, then cut Color A and attach Color B. Knit in stockinette stitch (knit one row then purl one row) for 16 rows. Cut Color B, attach Color A, and knit 4 more rows of stockinette stitch. Cut Color A, attach Color B, and begin working the ruffle on the 50 stitches as follows:
Rows 1 and 2 – Knit
Row 3 – KFB in each stitch across (100 stitches)
Rows 4, 5, and 6 – Knit
Row 7 – KFB in each stitch across (200 stitches)
Rows 8 and 9 – Knit
Bind off all 200 stitches and weave in ends.Finishing – Seam the bottom of the bag and felt using your preferred method. Apply purchased closure hardware, if desired.
