Fjord and Nubbles Felted Triangular Handbag

Materials:
2-50 gram balls Crystal Palace Fjord in #9660 - "Amethyst" (Color A)
1- 50 gram ball
Crystal Palace Nubbles in #402 - "Ultra Blues"
1-50 gram ball Crystal Palace Fjord in #9628 - "Periwinkle" (Color B)
6 Stitch markers, one of which is a unique color to mar the beginning of the round, and two of which are split-ring type markers
One Crystal Palace Bamboo or DAISY Needles size 11 (8 mm) circular knitting needle
Two Crystal Palace Bamboo or DAISY Needles US size 11 (8 mm) double pointed needles

Gauge: 3½ stitches per inch and 4 rows per inch in stockinette stitch knit in t he round This bag will be worked in the round from the bottom up, and then the bottom will be picked up, knitted, and finished.

Measurements:
Pre-felting dimensions – 15" across the base of the bag, 11" from bottom to top of triangle.
After felting – 11½” across the base of the bag and 8½” from bottom to top of triangle; 12" to top of handles at mid-point.

Knit the body of the bag
With one strand of Color A and the circular needle, cast on 52, place marker; cast on 6, place marker; cast on 52, place marker; cast on 6, place uniquely colored marker. Join and knit one round in stockinette stitch.
Round 2: SSK, K48, K2tog, slip marker, K6, slip marker, SSK, K48, K2tog, slip marker, K6.
Round 3 and all odd numbered rounds for Color A: Knit around.
Round 4 and all even numbered rounds for Color A: SSK, knit to the last two stitches before the next marker, K2tog, slip marker, K6, slip marker, SSK, knit to the last two stitches before the next marker, K2tog, slip marker, K6 to EOR.
Repeat, using the decrease round alternately with a plain knit round until there are 38 stitches on each long edge side of the bag (total 88 stitches). End Color A with a round of plain knit.
Tip: After working a few rounds, place one split-ring marker at the beginning and end of one of the long edges of the bottom round to mark where the bottom panel will later be picked up and knitted.
Cut Color A and with two strands of Nubbles held together, knit as follows:
Nubbles Round 1: P2tog, Purl to the last two stitches before the marker, P2tog, slip marker, P6, slip marker, P2tog, Purl to the last two stitches before the next marker, P2tog, sip marker, P6 to EOR. Purling the Nubbles will encourage the texture to remain on the outside of the bag.
Nubbles Round 2: Purl around to EOR. Cut Nubbles and begin using one strand of Color B.
Round 1 of Color B and all odd numbered rounds for Color B: SSK, knit to the last two stitches before the next marker, K2tog, slip marker, K6, slip marker, SSK, knit to the last two stitches before the next marker, K2tog, slip marker, K6 to EOR.
Round 2 and all even numbered rounds for Color B: Knit around.
Repeat Rounds 1 and 2, until there are 20 stitches on each long edge side of the bag (total 52 stitches).
End Color b with a decrease round.

Divide top of bag
Begin next round by continuing to knit with Color B. Knit 10 stitches. Leaving all
remaining stitches resting on the cable, turn the work and begin working back and forth using half the stitches. P10, slip marker, P6, slip marker, P10.
Turn work, then SSK, knit to the last two stitches before the next marker, K2tog, slip marker, K6, slip marker, SSK, knit 6 K2tog.
Turn work and Purl back across the last row.
Turn work, SSK, knit to the last two stitches before the next marker, K2tog, slip
marker, K6, slip marker, SSK, knit 4, K2tog.
Turn work and Purl back across the last row.
Turn work, SSK, knit to the last two stitches before the next marker, K2tog, slip
marker, K6, slip marker, SSK, knit 2, K2tog.
Turn work and Purl back across the last row.
Turn work, SSK, K2tog, slip marker, K6, slip marker, SSK, K2tog.
Turn work and Purl back across the last row.
Turn work, SSK, slip marker, K6, slip marker, K2tog. (8 stitches remain)
Turn work and Purl back across the last row.
Turn work and SSK, K4, K2tog.
Turn work and Purl back across the last row.
Turn work and bind off all six stitches. Cut Color B.

For other side, beginning on the purl side of the work, attach Color B and purl across all 26 stitches.
Turn work, then SSK, knit to the last two stitches before the next marker, K2tog, slip marker, K6, slip marker, SSK, knit 6 K2tog.
Turn work and Purl back across the last row.
Turn work, SSK, knit to the last two stitches before the next marker, K2tog, slip
marker, K6, slip marker, SSK, knit 4, K2tog.
Turn work and Purl back across the last row.
Turn work, SSK, knit to the last two stitches before the next marker, K2tog, slip
marker, K6, slip marker, SSK, knit 2, K2tog.
Turn work and Purl back across the last row.
Turn work, SSK, K2tog, slip marker, K6, slip marker, SSK, K2tog.
Turn work and Purl back across the last row.
Turn work, SSK, slip marker, K6, slip marker, K2tog. (8 stitches remain)
Turn work and Purl back across the last row.
Turn work and SSK, K4, K2tog.
Turn work and Purl back across the last row.
Turn work and bind off all six stitches. Cut Color B.

Bottom panel of handbag
Using one strand of Color A, pick up 52 stitches between the split-ring markers on one long edge of the bottom of the bag. Knit back and forth in garter stitch for 8 rows.
Bind off all 52 stitches and seam the other three edges of the bottom to the bottom of the bag using an invisible stitch.

Finishing the top of the handbag with I-cord
Using one strand of Color A, work a 4-stitch applied I-cord to finish the top of the bag and create the straps, in this order:
Work 4-stitch applied I-cord to each of the six bound of stitches of the top sides of the bag.
Beginning a the bottom of the V on one of the long sides, work 4-stitch applied I-cord, making sure to work across the ends of each of the I-corded sides, and then work 12" inches of free I-cord (for the purse handles) before rejoining on the other side of the V and working back to the bottom of the V.
Bind off and seam the I-cord at the bottom of the V. Repeat for the second side.

After completing the knitting, felt the bag using your preferred method.
