Child's Knit Capelet in Cotton Chenille with
Squiggle Trim
Designed and Knit by Beryl Tsang

Crystal Palace Yarns.
Pattern is written age/size 2 with addition sizes in parentheses (4, 6, 8, 10,
12)
Yarns: 2-50 gr skeins (3, 4, 5, 6, 7) any
jewel-toned Crystal Palace Cotton
Chenille, 1 (1, 1, 2, 2, 2) 50 gr. ball of Crystal Palace
Squiggle.
[Colors here: Cotton Chenille #1219 and Squiggle #9298 "code pink"]
Gauge: 3-4 stitches per inch
Needle: 4 - 4.5 mm/ US size 6-7
Crystal Palace Bamboo circular needles, 4.5
bamboo crochet hook. [Be sure to check your gauge in St st with Cotton Chenille
before beginning.]
Notions: Stitch markers, small eye tapestry needs, and
1-2 large decorative buttons.
Start by:
Casting on 62 stitches (70,78,86,94,102)
Collar
Knit 2, purl 2. Repeat ribbing for 2.5 (3, 4, 4.5, 4.5, 5) inches, ending on a
right side row.
Caplet
First Row: knit two together, yarn over, knit two
together, repeat until end of row.
Next row: Purl.
Next row: Place marker, purl 1, make 1, knit 14 (16, 18,
20, 22, 24), make 1, place marker, bring yarn foward, slip next stitch purlwise,
make 1, Knit 14 (16, 18, 20, 22, 24), make 1, place, marker, bring yarn forward,
slip next stitch purlwise, make 1, knit 14 (16, 16, 20,22,24), make 1, bring
yarn forward, slip next stitch purlwise, knit 14 (16, 18, 20,22,24) make 1. Purl
last stitch.
Next row. Knit first stitch, purl until last stitch,
then knit last stitch.
Next Row: Purl first stitch, make 1 stitch, continue
knitting to next marker, make 1 stitch, bring yarn forward, slip mark stitch
purlwise, make 1 stitch, continue knitting to next marker, Make 1 stitch. Bring
yarn forward, slip marked stitch purlwise, make 1 stitch, knit until second to
last stitch, make 1, purl last stitch.
Continue in this way until you have 126 (142, 164, 186
208, 216) on your needle.
Next row: (the wrong side) knit 1 stitch, purl to end,
knit last stitch.
Next row: Purl first stitch, knit until next marker,
yarn forward, slip stitch purlwise, continue in this way until the end of row,
purl last stitch.
Next row: Knit first stitch and purl until end of row,
knit last stitch.
Continue these two rows until caplet is 10.5 (13, 15.5,
17.5, 20, 22, 24) inches long, from top to bottom ending on a right side.
Fringe:
Double the Crystal Palace Squiggle.
Knit all rows with yarn held double (on both right and
wrong sides) until fringe is 2.5 (3, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5) inches long.
Bind off.
With crochet hook and chenille, chain stitch a 1.5 inch
loop on the right edge, where the collar meets the caplet Sew button on the left
side.
Weave in ends and block by gently dipping in warm
water, shape and lay flat to dry.
