Materials:
Crystal Palace Fizz
- 2 balls (50g) #9526 tulips and
Crystal Palace Kid Merino -
1 ball (25 g) #4683 canyon
Crystal Palace DAISY needles 14" size 17
or CPY Bamboo needles 16" circular size 17
[I knit very loosely and I knit this on 15s, but most knitters
will use 17s.]
Cast on 4 sts holding both yarns together throughout.
All of shawl is knit in garter st (knit all rows).
Inc 1 st at the beginning of each row. Continue knitting until the work
measures 8 inches from beginning cast on.
Now increase 1 st at both beg and end of every row.
Continue knitting and increasing until you have 125-126 sts on needle.
Next row: *K1, inc 1 in next st (by knitting in front and
back of st)* repeat these sts to end of row.
Knit one row.
Bind off loosely.
Notes:
1. When increasing at edge of knitting, work your inc's
one stitch in from the edge and you'll have a nicer edge finish than if
you inc in the first and last sts.
2. The increases in the 2nd to last row give a softer final edge to the
shawl than if you just bind off without the increasing. Binding off the
125 sts can make a tight edge, whereas the 1/3 inc in the number of sts
at the end of your knitting leaves a soft edge.
Thanks to Julie A. for modeling the shawl.
