MC: 2 (3, 3, 4, 4, 5, 6) - 100 gram balls; color #9809 "fall herbs"
CC: 2 (2, 3, 3, 4, 5, 6) - 100 gram balls; color #2810 "marine"
Crystal Palace Bamboo Needles:
Size 10-1/2, 16" circular needles and size 11, 35" circular needles, or size to obtain gauge
Size I crochet hook for button loop

Gauge:
10 st and 16 rows = 4 inches in seed st, using size 11 needles.
12 sts and 18 rows =4 inches in Broken Rib stitch, using size 11 needles
Be sure to make a gauge swatch, block and measure on flat surface.

Bottom Rib:
Vest is worked in one piece and divided at armholes.
Using MC, and size 11 circular needles, CO 107 (117, 129, 141, 153, 165, 177) sts. Work in Broken Rib pattern as follows:
Broken Rib
Row 1 (WS): * K1, P1, rep from * end K1
Row 2: Knit.
Repeat these 2 rows for a total of 9 rows, end after working Row 1:

Body:
Begin Stripe pattern and at the same time decrease 20 (20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30) evenly on the first row. —89 (97, 107, 117, 127, 137, 147) sts.

Stripe Pattern:
Using CC
Row 1: Knit.
Rows 2-8: *K1, P1; rep from * to last st, K1.
Using MC
Row 9: Knit.
Row 10: Purl

Note:
Carry unused yarn loosely up the side.
Repeat rows 1-10 until piece measures 8 (8, 8 1/2, 9, 9, 8 1/2, 8 1/2)" from CO, end after working a WS row.

Back Armhole Shaping:
Work across 21 (23, 25, 28, 31, 34, 37) sts, place sts on stitch holder for right front. Work across 47 (51, 57, 61, 65, 69, 73) sts for back. Place rem 21 (23, 25, 28, 31, 34, 37) sts on holder for left front.
Working on back sts only.
Bind off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows; 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows and Dec 1 st at each end every RS row 2 (2, 3, 4, 5, 4, 5) times. —29 (33, 37, 39, 41, 47, 49) sts. Work all BO and Dec sts into patt as estab.
Work even in pattern until armhole meas 9 (9 1/2, 10, 10, 10 1/2, 11 1/2, 12 1/2)" from armhole BO.
BO all sts. Mark 8 (10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 15) sts at each end for shoulders.

Left Front Armhole Shaping:
RS facing, return 21 (23, 25, 28, 31, 35, 37) sts for left front to needles, join yarn at armhole edge.
Work 2 rows even in patt.
BO 4 sts at armhole edge once, BO 3 sts at armhole edge once, Dec 1 st at armhole edge every RS row 2 (2, 3, 4, 6, 4, 5) times. —12 (14, 15, 16, 18, 24, 25) sts. Work all BO and Dec sts into patt as estab.
Work even in pattern until armhole measures 4 (4, 4, 4, 4, 4 1/2, 4 1/2)" from armhole BO; end after working RS row.

Shape Left Neck:
BO 2 (2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 4) sts at neck edge once; Dec 1 st at neck edge every RS row 2 (2, 2, 2, 3, 6, 6) times. —8 (10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 15) sts.
Work even in pattern until armhole measures 9 (9 1/2, 10, 10, 10 1/2; 11 1/2, 12 1/2)" from armhole BO; end after working WS row. BO 8 (10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 15) sts.

Right Front Armhole Shaping:
WS facing return 21 (23, 25, 28, 31, 35, 37) sts for right front to needles, join yarn at armhole edge; BO 4 sts at armhole edge once; BO 3 sts at armhole edge once, and Dec 1 st at armhole edge every RS row 2 (2, 3, 4, 6, 4, 5) times. ― 12 (14, 15, 16, 18, 24, 25) sts
Work all BO and Dec sts into patt as estab. Work even in pattern until armhole measures 4 (4, 4, 4, 4, 4 1/2, 4 1/2)" from armhole BO; end after working WS row.

Shape Right Neck:
BO 2 (2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 4) sts at neck edge once; Dec 1 st at neck edge every RS row 2 (2, 2, 2, 3, 6, 6) times. —8 (10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 15) sts.
Work even in pattern until armhole measures 9 (9 1/2, 10, 10, 10 1/2, 11 1/2, 12 1/2)" from armhole BO, end after working WS row. BO 8 (10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 15) sts.

Finishing:
Sew 8 (10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 15) sts of right front and back shoulder sts together, rep for left shoulder. Work armbands, front bands and neckband and button loop. Work in ends and block if necessary.

Arm Bands:
(Worked in the round)
RS facing, using MC and size 10 1/2 needles, beg at center of underarm; PU 54 (56, 60, 60, 64, 70, 76) sts around armhole; join into rnd.
Broken Rib (in the round):
Rnd 1: *K1, P1; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 2: Knit.
Repeat these 2 rows for a total of 5 rnds. BO in rib. Fasten off leaving a 6" tail. Weave tail into 1st st to close gap. Work in end. Rep for other armband.

Left Front Band:
RS facing using MC and size 11 needles, beg at neck BO, PU 35 (35, 37, 39, 41, 39, 39) sts along front to bottom edge.
Broken Rib:
Row 1 (WS): *P1, K1, rep from.
Row 2: Knit
Rep these 2 rows for a total of 5 rows, end after working Row 1.
RS facing, BO in rib.

Right Front Band:

RS facing, using MC and size 11 needles, beg at bottom edge, PU 35 (35, 37, 39, 41, 39, 39) sts along front to neck BO. Rep Broken Rib as for left front.
Neck Band:

RS facing, using MC and size 11 needles, beg at right front neck where the front band begins, PU 5 sts across right band, 20 (22, 22, 24, 26, 28, 32) sts along front to back neck, knit 13 (13, 15, 15, 15, 17, 19) sts across back neck, 20 (22, 22, 24, 26, 28, 32) sts to front band, 5 sts across left band. —63 (67, 69, 73, 77, 83, 93) sts.
Work in Broken Rib as follows:
Row 1 (WS): *P1, K1; rep from *
Row 2: Knit.
Rep these 2 rows for a total of 5 rows, end after working row 1. RS facing, BO in rib.

Button Loop:
Using crochet hook and MC, leaving a 5" tail, chain stitch until cord is long enough to go around the button but not too loose, as the loop will stretch a bit after use.
Fasten off, leaving a 5" inch tail. Using the tails, attach one end of cord to WS at top of right front band, make a loop and anchor the other end of the cord below the first attachment. Anchor the tails securely and work in ends.
Sew button on top left band opposite of button loop.
