Materials: Crystal Palace

(12) - 50 grm balls #1015 "natural white" or #9576 "rosewater"
Needles: Crystal Palace
Bamboo or DAISY Needles US size 8, 16” or 26” circular for sleeve cuffs and neckline;
US size 10, 35-40” circulars to accommodate the large number of stitches after
sts for Body are Cast On since the sweater is knit side-to-side. 1 stitch marker
Gauge: 17sts=4” and 28 rows= 4” Note: Both stitch and row gauge are important since this piece is worked
sideways. Stitch gauge determine the length and row gauge determines the width
of the garment Be sure to do a gauge swatch.
Abbreviations: BO-bind off; CO-cast on; Dec-decrease;
estab-established; Inc-increase; k-knit; meas-measures; p-purl; rem-remain;
rep-repeat; rem-remain; RS-right side; WS-wrong side.
Sweater is knit sideways from left cuff to right cuff. Read
through the entire pattern before beginning to knit.
Note: When changing to a new
ball of yarn, join between the body and seed stitch border.
Lower Left Cuff Using size 8 needles CO 34 (34) (38) (40) (42) sts. Work in
seed stitch as follows: Row 1: *K1, p1. Row 2: *P1, k1. Rep these 2 rows for 5”. Note: Cuff will be folded up.
Sleeve Body Change to size 10 needle and Begin Roman Stitch Pattern as
follows: Row 1 & 3 (RS): Knit. Row 2 & 4: Purl. Row 5: *K1, pl; rep from *.
Row 6: *P1, k1; rep from *. Note: Rows 5 and 6 form the raised stitch pattern.
Rep these 6 rows and at the same time Inc 1 st
at each end every row 3, once; every 4th row, 13 (12) (17) (18) (15) times, then
every 6th row 5 (6) (5) (5) (7) times. 72 (72) (84) (88) (88) sts. Work even in pattern 5 (9) (1) (3) (3) rows. 15 (16) (17) (17) (18) raised
pattern rows have been worked, end after working row 6. Sleeve should meas 18.25 (19.25) (20) (21) (21)” from CO.
Do not fasten off.
Left Body Leaving the 72 (72) (84) (88) (88) sts on left needle,
using a separate ball of yarn CO 54 (56) (56) (58) (58) sts on right needle
for left back body; join and work across 36 (36) (42) (44) (44) sts of sleeve,
PM for center of shoulder; work rem 36 (36) (42) (44) (44) sleeve sts, CO 54
(56) (56) (58) (58) sts for right front body. This counts as row 1 of pattern
st. 180 (184) (196) (204) (204) sts on needle. Keep the first and last 6 sts in seed stitch for bottom trim, work even in
pattern as established, until 6 (7) (7) (8) (9) raised pattern rows have been
worked from CO sts for the back and front; ending with row 6.
Medium Size Only: Work rows 1 and 2 once more, before starting
neck shaping.
Shape Neck
Left Front Neck Shaping: Continuing in pattern as established, work back and front at
the same time using 2 balls of yarn. (RS) Divide for neck and Dec Row 1:Work to
shoulder marker, remove marker, with 2nd ball of yarn, BO 1st, complete row. (WS) Dec Rows 2,4,6,8,10: Work to 2 sts before front neck edge, Dec 1. Complete
row for back. (RS) Dec Row 3,5: Work across back sts. At neck edge BO 1 st, complete row for
front (RS) Dec Row 7,9: Work across back sts. BO 2 sts at neck edge, complete row for
front. 12 sts have been decreased on left front neck edge. Work 20 (20) (22) (26) (26) rows even, end after working (WS) row.
Right Front Neck Shaping: Note: Shaping is the reverse of the left side.
(RS) Inc Row 1: Work across back sts; beg right front, CO 1 st; complete row for
front. (WS) Inc Row 2,4: Work across sts for right front, CO 2 sts at neck edge; work
across row for back. (RS) Inc Row 3,5,7,9: Work across back sts; Inc 1 st at right front neck edge,
complete row for front. (WS) Inc Row 6,8 10: Work across sts for right front; CO 1 st beg right front
neck edge; work across row for back. 12 sts have been increased on right front
neck edge.
Right Body Work across sts for back, join and work sts for front. 180 (184)
(196) (204) (204) sts. Working across all sts, work in patt as estab until 6 (7)
(7) (8) (9) Raised pattern rows from back and front join have been completed. Work rows 1 and 2 once more.
Sleeve Body BO 54 (56) (56) (58) (58) sts at beg next 2 rows. 72 (72)
(84) (88) (88) sts rem. Work 6 (8) (0) (2) (2) even in patt as established. Dec 1 st at each end; then
every 6th row, 5 (6) (5) (5) (7) times; every 4th row, 13 (12) (17) (18) (15)
times, end with row 6 of pattern. Work rows 1-3 once more. 34 (34) (38) (40)
(42) sts.
Lower Right Sleeve Cuff: Change to size 8 needles, work Seed Stitch same as for left cuff.
BO in pattern.
Neck Band Using size 8 needles, beg at left shoulder, PU 12 sts along
left shoulder, 14 (16) (16) (20) (20) sts at neck opening, PU 12 sts along right
shoulder, 31, (33) (33) (37) (37) sts along back neck, PM and join into rnd. 69
(73) (73) (81) (81) sts. Work in seed stitch as follows: Rnd 1 *K1, P1; rep from
* to end of rnd. Rnd 2: *P1, K1; rep from * to end of rnd. Rep these 2 rnds for
a total of 8 rnds. BO loosely in pattern.
Finishing Sew side, sleeve and cuff seams, sewing last ½ of cuff seam
with WS together, so when cuff is folded up the sewn part of the seam does not
show [See bottom photo at right for cuff detail]. Work in all ends.
