Materials:
Crystal Palace Party:
7, (8, 9, 11, 12, 13); 87yds/50gr balls. (#403 - Fall Herbs)
Crystal Palace Bamboo Needles: size 10
(6mm) and 10.5 (6.5mm) straight or circular; OR size to obtain gauge.
Size 9 (5.5mm), 16” circulars for armhole and neck trim
Spray Bottle and
Pins for Blocking
Abbreviations:
Beg-beginning; Dec-decrease; K- knit; K2tog- knit 2 stitches together; P2tog-
purl 2 stitches together; PU-pick up; SSK- slip 2 stitches one at a time as if
to knit, place tip of left needle through the front of these 2 stitches and knit
together from this position; Rem- remaining; Rep-repeat; RS-right side;
Sts-stitches
Gauge: 16 sts = 4” (4 sts = 1”) and 28 rows = 4” (7rows = 1”) using
size 10.5 needle, (blocked measurements, laying flat)
Note: The weight of the fabric lengthens when worn; the length to
under arm and armhole depth has been adjusted to allow for this when worn. Be
sure to check gauge, measure on flat surface.
Slip Stitch Basket Pattern:
Multiple of 4 stitches plus 3
Row 1: K3, * with yarn in back slip 1 stitch (purl wise), k3, rep
From * to end
Row 2: K3, * with yarn in front slip 1 stitch (purl wise), k3, rep from * to end
Row 3: Repeat Row 1
Row 4: Repeat Row 2
Row 5: Knit
Row 6: Purl
These 6 rows form the pattern
[Note: 1 stitch is added to the pattern below to form a selvage on each
end of the row. These 2 sts are not worked as part of the Slip St Basket
Pattern.]
Back:
Using size 10(6mm) needles, cast on 73 (77, 85, 93, 97, 101) sts.
Knit 5 rows
Note: On the purl row of pattern, keep 1st and last stitch in knit for selvage
edge throughout knitting. This makes it easier to sew the seam later.
Change to size 10.5(6.5mm) needle
Purl 1 row
Begin Slip Stitch Basket Pattern, cont to work 1st and last st as K for selvage
and not as part of the pattern; work until piece measures 14, 14.5, 15, 15.5,
16, 16.5)” from cast on edge.
Armhole Shaping:
BO 5 (6, 7, 8, 8, 8) sts at beg next 2 rows.
Decrease Row: SSK, knit to last 2 sts, k2tog. Rep Dec row for a total of 6 (6,
6, 8, 8, 9) times. 51 (53, 59, 61, 65, 67) sts.
Work even until piece measures 19 (20, 21, 22, 23, 24)” from cast on edge.
Begin Neck Shaping:
Work 15 (16, 18, 18, 19, 20) sts, attach another ball and bind off center 21,
(21, 23, 25, 27, 27) sts, work across 15 (16, 18, 18, 19, 20) sts. Working both
sides at once. Decrease at neck edge every other row, 2 times, 13 (14, 16, 16,
17, 18) sts remain.
Work even in pattern until armhole measures 6 (6.5, 7, 7.5, 8, 8.5)”. Note:
armhole depth is shorter than normal due to fabric lengthening when worn). Piece
measures a total of 20 (21, 22, 23, 24, 25)” from cast on edge. BO rem sts.
Front:
Work as for back including all shaping, until piece measures 16.5 (17, 18.25,
19.5, 20,75, 21.5)” from cast on edge. 51 (53, 59, 61,65, 67) sts.
Begin Neck Shaping:
Work even in pattern across 23 (24, 26, 27, 29, 30) sts, attach another ball;
bind off center 5 (5, 7, 7, 7, 7) sts; work in pattern across 23 (24, 26, 27,
29, 30) sts. Working both sides at once
Dec 1 stitch at neck edge every other row 10 (10, 10, 10, 12, 12) times. 13,
(14, 16, 16, 17, 18) sts rem. Work even in pattern until piece measures same as
back to shoulder shaping. BO rem sts.
Finishing:
Block by pinning out pieces, spray with water and let dry completely. Seam
shoulder and sides. Work in ends.
Armhole trim:
Using size 9(5.5mm) needles, RS facing, Beg at underarm, PU 64 (66, 72, 72, 78,
84) stitches evenly around armhole. Purl 1 rnd.
Dec Rnd: * Purl 14 (9, 10, 16, 11, 12) sts, P2tog. Rep from * to end of rnd 60
(60, 66, 68, 72,78) sts.
Purl 1 rnd. BO in purl. Rep for other armhole.
Neckline Trim:
Using size 9(5.5mm) needles, RS facing, beg at left shoulder seam, PU 18 (20,
22, 24, 26, 28) sts along neckline, PU 5 (5, 7, 7, 7, 7) center stitches, PU 18
(20, 22, 24, 26, 28) along neckline to shoulder seam, PU 5 (7, 8, 9, 10, 11) st
to back neckline, PU 21 (21, 23, 25, 27, 27) bound off neckline stitches, PU 5
(7, 8, 9, 10, 11) sts to shoulder. 72 (80, 90, 98, 106, 112) sts.
Purl 3 rnds. BO in purl.
Allow neck and armhole trim to roll to the inside, making a nice finished edge.
