free poncho pattern from Crystal Palace Yarns

Choo-Choo Poncho - very easy poncho to knit

Materials:
6 balls Choo Choo color 1776, "citrus"
Size 11 Circular 26" CPY Bamboo needle
Gauge 4 sts =1 inch

[Note: some knitters find they use a 10-10.5 size needle to get this gauge with Choo-Choo, so check your gauge before beginning.]

Directions:
Make two rectangles as follows:
Cast on 88 stitches on a size 11 needle.

Work in Reverse Stockinette (purl side out) for three rows, then Stockinette for three rows. Repeat these 6 rows until you have 31 ridges and valleys (Total 93 rows). Bind off in Rev St.

*Row 1: K
Row 2: P
Row 3: K
Row 4: K
Row 5: P
Row 6: K*
Work 6 rows between *s 15 times. (90 rows)
End with
Row 91: K
Row 92: P
Row 93: K
Bind off all stitches.

The reverse stockinette edges are on right side of the garment. Make 2nd rectangle same as first.

Assembly:
With the bound off (less stretchy) edges at the top of poncho, place pin 12 inches in from the side. Pin then sew side edge of 1st piece to top of 2nd piece using mattress stitch and easing in side edge to fit with the right side of garment facing you. Repeat with second edge to top assembly.
Weave in all ends securely to wrong side.
