Materials
3 - 50 gr balls Aran Print Wool (new for
fall - 100% wool) printed colors shown are
#2105 (earthy colors) and 2107 (red tones)
[Cost approx. will be $21 retail or less for scarf
and $14 retail or less for hat.]
Crystal Palace Bamboo Needles or DAISY Needles US#9 (5.5mm)
Gauge: 4.5 sts/inch (but gauge is not terribly important)
Scarf will be approx. 62" long x 6.5" wide
Instructions for Scarf
Cast on 30 sts
[Note: outer single edge sts are always knit.]
Squared Pattern (18 rows)
(garter st squares alternate with 1-1 rib squares)
Row 1: K1; (K1, P1) 3x; K1; K7; (K1, P1)3x; K1; K7; K1
Row 2: K1; K7; P1; (P1, K1)3x; K7; P1; (P1, K1)3x; K1
Repeat Rows 1 & 2: 3 times
Work more Row 1
(total of 9 rows of Squared Pattern worked)
Row 10: K1; K7; (K1, P1) 3x; K1; K7; (K1, P1)3x; K2
Row 11: K1; (K1, P1) 3x; P1; K7, (K1, P1)3x; P1; K7; K1
Repeat Rows 10 & 11: 3 times
Work one more Row 10
Repeat these 2 sets of squares (18 rows) until you are almost out of yarn. End one sequence with a Bind Off in pattern.
Instructions for Hat
Materials
Aran Print Wool 2 -
50 gr balls
16" Crystal Palace Bamboo Circular needle size 8 and 9
1 set of Double Point Needles size 9
[You will change to the DP Needles when circumference of hat gets
too small for the circulars.]
1 stitch marker or loop of contrasting color yarn
Gauge: 17 sts/4 inches in ribbing on larger needles
Instructions
With smaller size circular needle, cast on 84 sts, join round being careful not
to twist the sts. Place marker to keep track of beg of each round.
Work K1-P1 rib for 2.25" (approx 16 rounds)
Work 1 round of K
Change to larger circular needles and work 1 round of K.
Next round change to new wider rib: *P2, K5*, repeat 12 times around hat.
Cont to work this pattern for 8 in. [approx 48 rounds]
1st Dec Round: *K5, k2tog* rep 12 times around hat [72 sts]
Next 3 rounds: *P2, K4* rep 12x around hat
2nd Dec Round: *K4, k2tog* [60 sts]
Next 3 rounds: *P2, K3* rep 12x around hat
[You will change to the DP Needles when circumference of hat gets
too small for the circulars.]
3rd Dec Round: *K3, k2tog* rep 12x around [48 sts]
Next 3 rounds: *P2, K2* rep 12x around
4th Dec Round: *K2, k2tog* rep 12x around hat [36 sts]
5th Dec Round:*K1, k2tog* rep 12x around [24 sts]
6th Dec Round: repeat 5th Dec Rnd: [12 sts]
End with k2tog until only 2 sts remain, draw tail of yarn through final stitches
and secure inside.
