Christmas Scarf: Iceland + Popcorn
lengthwise knit scarf patternFinished Scarf is approx. 58 inches long x 9 inches wide + fringe
This is easy to knit.
Materials:
2 - 100 gr. balls Iceland: 1 ball #008 "red cerise" = color A, 1 ball #1058 "new snow" white = color B
1 - 50 gr ball Popcorn #440 "Christmas"
CPY Bamboo Needles or DAISY Needles 29 to 40" Circular Size 15Stitch Used:
Garter Stitch (knit all rows)Gauge: 2 sts/inch in St st (gauge is not important for this scarf).
Tip: When working with Popcorn put the ball in a zip top sandwich bag and unroll a couple yards at a time to prevent tangling. Keep the ball in the bag.
Before knitting scarf, wind off for fringe.
Holding an end of color A and color B tog, wind around a book approx. 6-7" wide 24 times and cut at one side to make 24 pairs of fringes. I used 12 pairs on each end of the scarf. I also added 6 strands of Popcorn to the fringe on each end.Note: If you are the sort of knitter who likes evenly spaced stripes, then follow a strict K2 for all rows, I like my stripe pattern a little random, so I did the following for my scarf:
To knit scarf (lengthwise):
With color A, cast on 105 sts on circular needle
K 2 rows - color A
K 2 rows - Popcorn
K 2 rows - color B
K 2 rows - Popcorn
K 2 rows - color A
K 2 rows - color B
K 2 rows - Popcorn
K 4 rows - color A
K 4 rows - color B
K 2 rows - Popcorn
K 4 rows - color A
K 4 rows - color B
K 2 rows - Popcorn
K 2 rows - color A
K 2 rows - color B
K 2 rows - Popcorn
K 3 rows - color AYou will have some yarns left over - a little color A and more of color B and some Popcorn - why not make a little felted bag with the leftovers?
Bind off LOOSELY in color A, use a size 17 needle to bind off if you have problems being very loose. Binding off too tightly will make the scarf bow to one side.
