Free Knit Scarf Pattern
Funky Mochi Scarf
Mini Mochi & Chunky Mochi
This is an easy, long
scarf to knit and is reversible. It has a casual "de-constructed look".
Materials
1 - 50 gr balls Crystal Palace
Chunky Mochi
#817 beach scene (click to see all colors)
1 - 50 gr ball of Mini Mochi
#117 beach scene (click to see colors)
1 pr 9" size 10-3/4 Crystal Palace
Bamboo Needles
Gauge: 16 sts/4,5" wide scarf on size 10-3/4 (or 11)
Size: (relaxed, not blocked wide) 4.5" x 80"
Instructions:
[ Note: Put aside 3 yds of Chunky Mochi to use for matching
the edge where you will carry Chunky Mochi as you knit.]
Cast on 16 sts using Chunky Mochi
[If you wish a wider, shorter scarf
add more stitches to cast on, 22 or more.]
Work 4 rows in garter st (K all rows).
Change to Mini Mochi, catching the
beginning with doubling the yarn for 3-4 sts.
Knit 6 rows of Mini Mochi in garter st (K all sts)
Change back to Chunky Mochi, work 2 rows of garter st (K both rows).
Change back to Mini Mochi for 6 rows of garter
st again.
[You'll see in the photo that in a couple of places I knit 8 rows of Mini Mochi
rather than 6, no problem - it's what happens when you watch a good movie while
knitting.]
Do not cut the Chunky Mochi, carry it loosely up one side of the scarf as you knit. Leave some slack as shown in photo.
Continue to alternate 2 rows of Chunky Mochi and 6 rows of Mini Mochi until almost out of yarn, ending with 4 rows of Chunky Mochi in garter st. Cast off loosely.
Taking the 3 yds put aside of Chunky Mochi run it up the side of the scarf pulling it through an outer row of Chunky Mochi.
Add some cut pieces of Chunky Mochi as fringe is desired.
