free knit pattern for man's pullover


Below is a close-up of
 ribbing stitch texture.

 

Sequoia Men's Ribbed Pullover     sw127

Sizes: Sm (Med, Lg, XLg)
Finished Garment Chest Measurements:

43.25 (45, 46.25, 49) inches or 110 (114, 117.5, 124.5) cm

Materials:
Crystal Palace Sequoia 16 (17, 17, 18) - 50 grm balls (model in col. 008)
Crystal Palace Bamboo Needles or DAISY Needles  US size 9 & 11 or size to get the gauge.
Be sure to check your gauge since with chunky yarns such as Sequoia being off on the gauge can give a totally different size finished sweater.

Gauge
11 sts and 20 rows to 4 ins (10cm) over patt using US 11 (7.5 mm) needles.
This is 2.75 sts/inch.

NOTE: Instructions for the larger sizes are given in () brackets; when one figure only is given this applies to all sizes. Always check your gauge carefully. Use smaller needles if you have less stitches to the in (cm) or larger needles if you have more stitches to the in. (cm).

Abbreviations:
K, knit; p, purl; CO, cast on; BO, bind off; st(s), stitch(es); rep, repeat; beg, begin(ning); tog, together; inc, increase; dec, decrease; rem, remain(ing);
foll, following; alt, alternate; cont, continue; meas, measures; patt, pattern; k1b, k into next st 1 row below st on needle, slipping st above off needle in the usual way; cm, centimeters; ins, inches.

BACK
With smaller needles cast on 65 (69, 73, 77) sts.
1st row (right side): K1, * p1, k1 *, rep from * to * to end.
2nd row: P1, * k1, p1 *, rep from * to * to end.
Rep these 2 rows until rib meas 2-1/4 ins (6cm), ending with a 1st row.
Next row (wrong side): Rib 12 (6, 4, 6), * p2tog, rib 11(9, 7, 7) *, rep from * to * to last 14 (8, 6, 8) sts, p2 tog, rib to end. [61 (63, 65, 69) sts.]
Change to larger needles and cont in rib patt thus:
1st row (right side): P5 (6, 7, 9), * (k1b, p1) 4 times, p3 *, rep from * to * to last 1 (2, 3, 5) sts, p1 (2, 3 5).
2nd row: K5 (6, 7, 9), * (p1, k1b) 3 times, p1, k4 *, rep from * to * to last 1 (2, 3, 5) sts, k1 (2, 3, 5) **.
Rep the last 2 rows until back meas 22.75 (22.75, 23, 23.75) ins [58 (58, 60.5, 60.5)] cm  from beg, ending with a wrong side row.

Shape Neck Keeping rib patt correct, cont thus:
Next row (right side): Patt 24 (25, 26, 28) sts, turn. Cont on these sts only and dec 1 st at neck edge on next 4 rows.
Work 1 row straight. Cast off rem 20 (21, 22, 24) sts in patt. Slip 13 center back sts onto a st holder. Complete other side of neck to match.

FRONT
Work as for back to **. Rep the last 2 rows until front meas 20-1/2 (20-1/2, 21-1/4, 21) ins [52 (52, 54, 54)cm] from beg, ending with a wrong side row.

Shape Neck
Keeping patt correct, cont thus:
Next row (right side): Patt 26(27, 28, 30) sts, turn.
Cont on these sts only and dec 1 st at neck edge on next 2 rows, then on every foll alt row until 20 (21, 22, 24) sts rem. Cont straight until front meas same as back to shoulder. Cast off in patt. Slip 9 center front sts onto a st holder. Complete other side of neck to match.

SLEEVES
With smaller needles cast on 35 (35, 37, 37) sts and work 2-1/4 ins [6cm] in K1, p1 rib as for back, ending with a 2nd row and decreasing 0 (0, 2, 2) sts in last row. [35 sts.]
Change to larger needles and cont in patt thus:
1st row (right side): P2, * p1, (k1b, p1) 4 times, p2 *, rep from * to * to end.
2nd row: K2, * k1, (p1, k1b) 3 times, p1, k3 *, rep from * to * to end.
Rep the last 2 rows, and at the same time inc 1 st at each end of next and every foil 8th (8th, 6th, 6th) row, working extra sts into patt, until there are 39 (39, 57, 57) sts, then inc 1 st at each end of every 6th (6th, 4th, 4th) row until there are 59 (59, 63, 63) sts. Cont straight until sleeve meas 17 (18, 18V2, 18y2)ins [45 (46, 47, 47) cm] from beg. Cast off loosely in rib patt.

Neckband
Taking 1 st into seam, join right shoulder seam. With right side facing, using smaller needles, pick up and k 16 (16, 17, 17) sts down left front neck, k 9 sts from st holder at center front,
pick up and k 15 (15, 16, 16) sts up right front neck, 5 sts down right back neck, k 13 sts from st holder at center back, and pick up and k 5 sts up left back neck.
[63 (63, 65, 65) sts.] Beg with a 2nd row, work 2 ins [5cm] k1, p1 rib as for back. Cast off loosely in rib st.

Assembly
Taking 1 st into seams, join left shoulder and neckband seam.
Beg and ending 10-3/4 (10-3/4, 11-1/2, 11-1/2) ins [27 (27, 29,29) cm] from shoulders, sew sleeves to sides.
Join side and sleeve seams. Fold neckband in half to wrong side and sew down.


Sequoia has the best feel and look with a light blocking. Mist with water or dampen, roll in a towel to remove excess water and lay flat to dry.
