Finished size: Child/Pre-teen (Adult)
Materials: 1 (2) 50 gr balls
Crystal Palace Taos, color
#05 - "Rio Grande"
16” circular & double pointed Crystal Palace Bamboo
Needles US size 8 (5.0 mm)
6 Stitch Markers
Taos is a new 100% wool dyed spun in specially
striated colors, available in July 2006.
Gauge: 5 sts = 1” (20 sts/10 cm)
Abbreviations:
K = Knit
K2tog = Knit 2 stitches together
M1 = Make 1 = Use the tip of your left needle to lift up the strand running
between the stitch just worked and the next stitch. Knit into the back of this
strand, twisting the loop to avoid making a hole.
P = Purl
PM = Place a stitch marker on the needle
SSK – Slip, slip, knit – Slip 1 st as if to knit. Slip another st as if to knit.
Put both sts back on left hand needle and knit them together through back loop.
St(s) = stitch(es)
Directions:
Using circular needle, Cast on 80 (88) stitches. Join into a circle, being
careful not to twist.
Round 1: * K 1, P 1, repeat from * to end of round
Repeat this round 7 times more.
Increase round: * K2, M1, repeat from * to end of round – 120 (132) sts.
Knit every round until piece measures 4” above increase round.
Set up shaping: * K 20, PM, repeat from * to end of round.
Decrease round: * SSK, K to 2 sts before marker, K2tog, slip marker, repeat from
* to end of round.
Work decrease round every other round until 12 sts remain, changing to double
pointed needles when necessary. On the next round, K2tog 6 times.
Break yarn, draw through remaining 6 sts, pull tight and fasten off.
Make a pom pom and sew to top of hat if desired.
