Needles: US Size 7 26" circular; US Size 8 (5mm) straight and 35"
circular, Crystal Palace Bamboo
Notions: Long stitch holder; 1-1"diameter button.
Gauge: 16 sts and 26 rows = 4 inches in Stockinette stitch
Abbreviations: beg-beginning; BO-bind off; CC-contrast
color; CO-cast on; cont-continue; Dec-decrease; EOR-every other row; MC-main
color; patt-pattern; PU-pick up; rem-remain(ing); RS-right side;
st(s)-stitch(es); ST st-
Stockinette stitch; WS-wrong side.
Note: Piece is worked in one piece and divided at armholes.
Body
Using CC and larger circular needle, CO 148 (160, 172, 188, 200,
212) sts. Work 4 rows St st. Change to MC, cont to work in ST st, keeping 1st
and last 6 sts in knit on every row. Work until piece measures 12 ½" from CO
edge; end after working WS row.
Divide for Armholes
Work 27 (27, 28, 28, 28, 29) sts as established. Place rem sts on holder for
Back and Left Front.
Right Front
Work even as established until armhole measures 1 ½ (1 ½, 1 ½, 1
½, 1 ½, 2)"; end after working WS row. begin buttonhole. Buttonhole: Work 2 sts
as established. BO next 2 sts, work across row as established. Next row work to
BO sts, CO 2 sts, work rem sts as established.
Work as established until armhole measures 3 (2, 2 ½, 2½, 2, 3)"; end after
working WS row.
Shape Neck and Shoulders
Working all sts in ST st; Dec 1 st at neck edge EOR 12 (10, 12, 12, 12, 10)
times; then every 4 rows 0 (2, 1, 1, 1, 3) times AT THE SAME TIME, when armhole
measures 7 ½ (7 ½, 7 ½, 8, 8, 8 ½)" BO 5 (5, 5, 5, 5, 6) sts at beg of next WS
row, then 5 sts at beg of next 2 WS rows.
Back
With RS facing, place next 76 (82, 86, 96, 102, 108) sts from st
holder onto needle; join yarn.
Shape Armhole
BO 18 (24, 26, 36, 42, 46) sts for underarm—58 (58, 60, 60, 60, 62) sts rem for
back.
Work rem sts even in ST st until armhole measures 7 ½ (7 ½, 7 ½, 8, 8, 8 ½)";
end after working WS row.
Shape Shoulders and Neck
BO 5 (5, 5, 5, 5, 6) sts, work 13 sts for shoulder. Join second ball of yarn, BO
center 22 (22, 24, 24, 24, 24) sts. Working BOTH SIDES AT THE SAME TIME, BO 5
(5, 5, 5, 5, 6) sts at the beg of next row, then BO 5 sts at beg next 4 rows and
AT THE SAME TIME BO 2 sts at each neck edge once, and then dec 1 st at each neck
edge once.
Left Front
With RS facing place rem sts onto needle; join yarn.
Shape Armhole
BO 18 (24, 26, 36, 42, 46) sts. for underarm—27 (27, 28, 28, 28, 29) sts rem .
Work rem sts as for Right Front, reversing all shaping.
Sleeves
Using CC and straight needles, CO 62 (62, 66, 66, 66, 70) sts.
Work 4 rows ST st, change to MC work in ST st until piece measures 6 ½ (7 ¼, 7
½, 8 ¾, 9 ¾,
10 ¼)".
Collar
With RS facing, using MC and smaller circular needles, PU 90 (90,
98, 98, 106, 106) sts evenly around neckline. Work in ST st until collar
measures
5 (5, 5, 5, 5 ½, 5½)" end after working WS (purl) row. Change to CC work 4 rows
ST st. BO loosely.
Finishing
Block pieces, pin the lower edges at the MC so the CC edge rolls
up to the beg of MC. Sew shoulder seams. Sew sleeve seam 4 ¼ (4 ¼, 4 ¼, 4 ½,
4 ½, 4 ½)". Sew sleeve into armhole, place sleeve seam at the center of armhole
BO sts. Sew on button.
