k: knit
k2tog: knit 2 stitches together

yarn which runs between the last st on the right needle and the next st on the
left needle; knit this st through the back loop - 1 st increased.
p: purl
sl: slip
ssk: slip 2 stitches individually as if to knit, then knit those 2 stitches
together through the back loops (left-slanting decrease)
st(s): Stitch(es)
w&t: wrap and turn - used to prevent holes when working short rows. Bring yarn
to front of work between needles, slip next st to right-hand needle, bring yarn
around this st to back of work, slip st back to left-hand needle, turn work to
begin working back in the other direction. When working the wrapped stitch on a
subsequent row, lift the wrap onto the left needle and knit or purl it together
with its stitch.
Provisional Cast On
A provisional cast on is meant to be removed, allowing you to
work from live stitches at the cast on edge. If you don't have a favorite
provisional cast on method, try this one:
With waste yarn, crochet a chain several stitches longer than the number of
stitches you need to cast on. Fasten off. Using the main yarn, pick up and knit
1stitch in the bump on the back of each chain stitch until you have the required
number of stitches on your needle.
To recover stitches from the cast on edge, unravel the crochet chain, catching
each stitch on a knitting needle as it is released from the chain.
