Ribbing:
Work in K1, P1 rib until ribbing is ~ 2.5" from CO edge.
K1 rnd.
Increase rnd: *(
Hand:
P all sts every rnd, until mitt is ~2.75" from end of
ribbing.
Thumb:
P12 sts, set 3 sts aside onto cable holder, P12 sts.
Hand:
Continue with hand, P all 24 sts every rnd until mitt is
~6" from end of ribbing.
Top Shaping:
Starting with the bor stitch,
place 12 sts each on 2 dpn.
(Designer's Note:
The use of 2 needles for the decreases
is easy to do; just be sure to pull yarn a bit tautly as you go from one needle
to the next.)
Repeat these two rnds until only 8
sts remain.
Next Rnd:
*P2tog; rep from * to end of rnd.
Cut yarn, leaving an ~8"end.
With crochet hook, pull the yarn ends through
each st, one at a time, dropping them off needles.
Pull end tautly and take end to inside of mitt.
Finishing:
Thumb:
(Designer's Note:
You can try on the mitt to test thumb
length; make the thumb at least 1 rnd longer than you think is needed.
Cut the yarn, leaving an ~8" end.
Now with a
crochet
hook or tapestry needle, draw yarn through each loop on needle and drop off.
Pull snugly. Work all ends in on reverse side so they don't' show. A
crochet hook does this very rapidly.
