Lofty Wool Cable Mittens

Lofty Wool is a new CPY yarn for Fall 2009 - see all the 27 colors here.

Materials:
3-50 gram balls for pair of mittens in Crystal Palace Lofty Wool,
shown in color 'sage' #5448

Description:  These mittens are quick and fun to knit.  The chunky gauge and loftiness of Lofty Wool gives the cables body and a softened texture.  The mittens have long cuffs for extra wrist warmth. 

Level:  Intermediate (This is a great project for an advanced beginner who is ready to move to the next level: cables.)

Size:  Woman’s M (Men’s M) (Hand Circumference: 8 (9)”)

Materials:
3 – 50g balls of Crystal Palace Lofty Wool (Shown in color #5448 Sage)
Crystal Palace Double-Pointed Bamboo Needles in US #9 (5.5 mm), or size needed to obtain gauge
Cable needle
Yarn needle
Scrap yarn (~12-18”) 

Gauge:  4 sts = 1” in St st

Abbreviations: 
beg
- beginning; BO- bind off; C4L- cable 4 left (slip 2 sts and hold in front of work, k2, k2 from cable needle); C6L- cable 6 left (slip 3 sts and hold in front of work, k3, k3 from cable needle); C6R- cable 6 right (slip 3 sts and hold in back of work, k3, k3 from cable needle); CO- cast on; dpn- double-pointed needle; k- knit; m1- make one st (pull band of yarn on row below between stitch just worked and next stitch and slip onto left needle, knit into back of this stitch to make a new stitch);  k2tog- knit 2 stitches together; p- purl; p2sso- pass the 2 slipped stitches over the stitch just worked; p2tog- purl 2 stitches together; patt- pattern; pu- pick up; rem- remaining; rnd- round; ssk- slip, slip, knit (slip one stitch knitwise onto working needle then slip the next stitch knitwise onto working needle, slip back onto left needle and knit together; St st- stockinette stitch; st(s)- stitch(es)

Instructions:

CO 32 (36) sts over four dpn’s.  Join yarn and work in St st for 10 (12) rnds.

For Men Only:
