Description: With this matching hat and collar, you will look like you just stepped out from the Irish countryside. The hat features a 2 x 2 rib and basic 6-stitch cable with dramatic decreasing for a slouchy, beret-style hat. The flared collar features the same 6-stitch cable, picot bottom edging, chevron eyelet design and top ribbing. Both pieces are worked in the round.
Level: Intermediate (knowledge of basic cables, increasing and decreasing and eyelets recommended)

Materials:
3-50 g balls Crystal Palace
Merino 5 (For hat only or neck warmer
only - 2 skeins) #5212 "lichen"
Crystal Palace Bamboo 16" Circular Needles: Size 5 and 9
Crystal Palace Bamboo Double-Pointed Needles: Size 9 (for hat)
Stitch marker
Yarn needle
Gauge: 20 sts = 4" in St st
Abbreviations: beg- beginning; BO- bind off; C6F- slip 3 sts to cable needle, hold in front, K3, K3 from cable needle; CO- cast on; dec- decrease; inc- increase; invisible inc- tip left needle forward and K 1 st into purl bump 1 row below, then K the st on the needle; k- knit; k2tog- knit 2 stitches together; p- purl; rep- repeat (repeat instructions between the *'s); rnd(s); round(s); Sk2p- slip 1, K2 tog, pass the slipped stitch over; ssk- slip, slip, knit (slip one stitch knitwise, then slip the next stitch knitwise, slip those two stitches back onto the left needle and knit them together); St st- Stockinette stitch; sts- stitches; yo- yarn over
Repeat Rnds 13-18 four times more.
On the last rnd, remove marker, P2, replace marker.
Work even, knitting the K sts and purling the P sts until piece measures
7" from cast-on edge. Begin decreasing,
changing to double-pointed needles when necessary:
Crown Decrease:
Rnd 1: *K6, P2 tog, P3* around.
[130 sts]
Rnd 2: and all alternate rnds:
K the K sts and P the P sts as they face you.
Rnd 3: *K6, P2 tog, P2* around.
[117 sts]
Rnd 5: *K6, P2 tog, P1* around.
[104 sts]
Rnd 7: *K6, P2 tog* around.
[91 sts]
Rnd 9: *K5, K2 tog* around.
[78 sts]
Rnd 11: *K4, K2 tog* around.
[65 sts]
Rnd 13: *K3, K2 tog* around.
[52 sts]
Rnd 15: *K2, K2 tog* around.
[39 sts]
Rnd 15: *K1, K2 tog* around.
[26 sts]
Rnd 16: K2 tog around.
[13 sts]
Cut yarn, leaving 10" tail. With yarn needle, draw through remaining 13 sts and pull up firmly. Fasten off.
Continue in K2-P2 rib for 1". BO loosely in pattern. Fasten off. Weave in all ends.
