Materials: Crystal Palace
Merino 5 100% superwash
merino wool,
1 - 50 gr balls 9816 "dogwood pinks" MC
+ small amount of CC #5204 "natural" for border
[Or knit all in one color with narrower ribbed border.]
Soft Merino 5 makes a wonderful Chemo Cap, but of
course anyone could wear this hat.
This cap is knit on Single Point needles and
seamed, no need to use DP Needles.
Gauge 5 1/2 st = 1" in seed st
Needles Single Point size 5 for rib, 7 for seed st
Size--close fitting adult woman or loose fit child
Stitches
Rib
row 1 - K1. P1 repeat
row 2 - Knit the knit stitches (V shape) and Purl the purl stitches (bump)
Seed
row 1 - K1. P1 repeat
row 2 - Knit the stitches that look like a purl (bump) and Purl the stitches
that look like a knit (V shape)
Note. When doing the decreases,
K2 tog always on RS row and on the WS return row, be sure to purl this dec
stitch. Stay in seed st for all the other sts. This will create a nice raised
swirl of dec sts on the crown.
Using CC yarn, cast on 111 on size 5 needles. Rib for 6 rows.
Change to size 7 needles and work knit one row increasing 1 st at the beginning
of the row.(112 sts)
Change to MC yarn and work in Seed St for 36 rows
Begin decreasing for the crown:
row 1 (RS) - Seed 1, * K2 tog, Seed 9, repeat from* 9 more Xs
row 2 (WS) - Seed back except be sure to purl the st that was the dec in the
previous row
row 3 - Seed 1, *K2 tog, seed 8, repeat from *
row 4 - Seed back
continue in this manner dec on each RS row until 12 sts remain. K3 tog across
the row (4 sts). Purl 2 tog twice. Cast off
Sew seam.
